Wisconsin Riverwoods Trail
Navigation |
The beautiful 10' wide multi-use (pedestrians & bicycles) asphalt trail is located along the west side of the Wisconsin River in the heart of the downtown area. The multi-use trail was constructed in the fall of 2009 and is located within an approximate 18-acre parcel urban forest that was graciously donated by the Wausau (Mosinee) Paper Corporation to the City in 2007. The approximate 2,200 feet long trail extends from Chuck's Boat Landing north to Main Street. There is also access to the trail from the east side of 3rd Street (between High & Jackson Streets). The trail includes a 12' wide elevated timber boardwalk across an existing wetland area and also two beautiful river overlook areas. The City was very fortunate able to obtain Community Sensitive Design Funds from the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation (as part of the Wisconsin River Bridge Reconstruction Project) and also a generous $10,000 contribution from the Mosinee Flowage Trust Fund (established by the Wausau {Mosinee} Paper Corporation), which is administered by the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, to finance 100% of the costs associated with constructing the trail. The City plans to install benches at the two river overlook areas in the spring of 2010 and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will pave the northernmost section of the trail up to Main Streetin 2010, when the Wisconsin River Bridge reconstruction project is completed. The City is also currently planning to eventually extend the multi-use trail from Chuck's Boat Landing to Edgewood Park. Future Riverwoods Trail Expansion Planned |
